Until then I'm still using Mac with Reaper. Our goal at is to help people save money on the TV they love and access it on-the-go. In the meantime, waiting for a new Windows Laptop with thunderbolt to arrive here in NZ so I can plug my GSR24m into. I think I will need to A/B both systems, or I might put them side by side as I have a couple of those A&H QU16. Maybe.? it was just my enthusiasm of seeing Reaper run on Windows. I was stunned at the responsiveness with Reaper on Windows compared to the mac book Pro of which is an i7 with 8gig Ram 7200 hardrive. WOW! Windows (with Reaper) was unbelievably fast compared to the Mac book pro!? Unfortunately I had to midi map the keys. Then I got out my 2 old trusty laptops (an i7 Dell and i5 HP) (3 year olds running Win 7) with USB3 on the ports and plugged them up with the QU mixer and Windows with Reaper. However after using A&H QU digital mixer with Reaper which worked 'straight out of the box' (so long as one sets up the A&H DAW control it works flawlessly and just adored using Sound Forge of which I could fly around on PC on.īut I had to switch and learn Mac of which I'm still learning. SO I plugged in the A7H QU16 to my mac book pro Running Lion Surely not I thought? USB can only handle X amount of data where fire-wire was designed for streaming. Then along has come the Allen and Heath QU series of digital mixers with USB streaming.Īhhh (can you 'hear the smell' of freshly ground coffee and a smile on my face) USB!? gosh I only had fire-wire until now. I've had maybe only 2 crashes in all of those years. And I've often thought a little spungy like a rubber band? that swirling little coloured disc that spins. Although I'm sure a little slow at times? Used Reaper for about 3 years with MAC only with GSR24M because of fire-wire interface and wanting portability I have recently been using testing the Reaper software with both PC and MAC Is there a way to get it to act like Reaper with the mouse, modifiers and all? I didn't really get to like Logic's workflow. So yeah, despite some possible shortcomings of Reaper on OSX, I am now bound to OSX. with all those hiccups happening 7/10 times I'd hit play or record. I mean I could record for my self but to record anybody who was paying money, it'd be too embarrassing. This is equipment-based things so I'd imagine this would vary for others, but with my equipment, I couldn't run it on Windows smoothly. I had much better audio stability on OSX, pretty much the only reasonable stability. If you only mix, Reaper is completely fine, but can not compete with instruments etc. I am also doing video with FCPX, these products are better integrated. On Mac Logic X is almost for free and is a mature product thats supported by many vendors, HW and SW. On PC Reaper really became my favourite and was stable. This will normally not be a problem if you have a newer machine and not running a big project. It's just the peculiar issue that it loads the cpu somewhat more then on PC w.r.t. Overall I like Mac much better then PC, so anyway I will use Mac as the OS is much more stable. If some one can compare P11 and Reaper, it would be intresting.Īudio implementation on Mac is worse then om PC for Reaper. However, it consumes more cpu at lower buffer sizes, like 32 or 64. I have no gui issues with Reaper as other seems to have. Kind of a bummer, as I'd like to get back into Reaper. I also own Logic X and PT11 and don't have 'these' kinds of issues. I'm running an i7 iMac w/16 gb of RAM, OSX 10.9.2, Reaper 4.611, an Avid 11 rack as my interface, and an ext. issue on my machine, which I'm trying to look into, but it makes Reaper unpleasant (understatement) to use. If I go to another program for a minute or two (browser, for example) and come back to Reaper, audio is delayed about. The playhead is often 'ahead' of the audio.weird. they move smoothly for a second or two, and then momentarily pause before resuming. For instance, there are often visual 'hiccups' when moving faders, i.e. Just went back to it a couple of nights ago, and there are strange goings-on. I haven't been using Reaper lately, or anything else for that matter.busy.
